Transformer test equipment selector

Describe the transformer from its nameplate and tick the tests you need. The tool calculates the test current its windings require, the ratio and the advisable test voltage, and proposes the unit —or pair of units— that covers your specification, starting with the most economical option.

01 · The transformer
630 kVA · 20/0.4 kV 2.5 MVA · 20/0.4 kV 40 MVA · 132/20 kV 300 MVA · 400/132 kV
02 · Tests you need

Tick only what your procedure requires: every extra feature raises the unit. The options that are greyed out are not offered by any unit together with what is already ticked, and they say what blocks them.

How it selects: in winding resistance measurement the deciding quantity is the test current, and it comes from the nameplate: between 1 % and 10 % of the rated current of the winding —with 1/√3 for delta-connected windings—. The low-voltage winding of a distribution transformer requires more current than the high-voltage winding of a power transformer. For turns ratio, the deciding factors are the test voltage recommended by the transformer size and whether the vector group requires a true three-phase voltage. Among the units that cover everything —or the ratio + resistance pairs— the lowest-cost option is offered first, with its basic accessories included.
Please note: an indicative pre-selection tool. It does not replace a review of the procedure, the applicable standard (IEC 60076-1, IEEE C57.152, IEEE C57.12.90) or confirmation of availability. Consult an AMPERIS engineer before finalising a purchase.
